Shea Butter.. Refined vs Unrefined

When something is refined, the process is to remove colour and scent from the product which also strips out most of the natural healing properties leaving only a fraction of the benefits behind. The refined product has a longer shelf life and can be mixed in with other products as neither colour nor scent will impact the overall end product being made. Mixing and blending certain 'butters' together (and research is needed for this) can help preserve the unrefined ingredient better within the product. 

Unrefined Shea means the item is raw or virgin and it is presented for use in all its natural glory.

Refined Shea is clear, most of the natural skin rejuvenating benefits have been processed out and there is no scent. This is still a fantastic moisturizer and can be used in the same way as if it were raw. 

With Shea Butter, it is rich in nutrients and vitamins such as Vitamin A, D, E and F, has a natural nutty scent, gives a light UV protection to the skin AND a generous amount of fatty acid. Shea contains oleic acid, stearic acid and linoleic acid, and your skin wastes no time in absorbing those beauties. It has antiaging traits because it stimulates collagen production AND the highest concentration of antioxidants. It is nature’s own moisturizer and of course the less 'processed' products are best if you’re wanting a truly natural skin treatment.

Caution... unrefined ingredients may cause an allergic reaction due to the potency of the internal elements so its always best to investigate the product before you go ahead and apply. Shea butter is scientifically classed as a seed and not a nut, It is hypoallergenic and as of 2023 there is no reported allergic reactions to Shea butter.
